Free airplane flights for kids on Saturday

Know a kid who loves airplanes? Take him or her out to the Petauma Airport this Saturday for a free flight.

To inspire a love of flying in a new generation, The Petaluma Area Pilots Association and the Petaluma Experimental Aircraft Association are hosting a day of flights from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the airport, to be given on a first come, first serve basis as long as weather permits.

Flights tend to last 10-15 minutes.

Participants will also receive a free log book, a certificate of flight and Experimental Aircraft Association student membership. They can also attend online ground school, and if they complete that, can get a voucher for a first flight lesson at a school of their choice.

The US Coast Guard is flying in for the event, and the Petaluma Police DARE Program will be there too as well.

Participants can also check out displays.

Food and drinks will be available for a small donation.

In order to fly, all participants must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
