Painting Red

Since watercolor lightens as it dries, red can be difficult to paint with when you are trying to achieve a desired impact. During this fun day of learning and practicing, we'll focus on how to create luminous washes while intensifying and building deep color. Bring your own subject or follow along with the sketches and reference material Birgit provides. The class will focus on red flowers-perhaps tulips or seasonal flowers-and building color saturation, layering, and creating depth and drama. There will be many demonstrations throughout the workshop and Birgit will share her techniques and color combinations with you. You'll learn how to control the application of watercolor to create large, smooth washes of color for the petals. Learn to interpret a flower without adding every detail. Although some knowledge of watercolor is helpful, beginners are welcome.
