Penngrove resident Rose Ann Baker had a heart for giving back to the community. She was an active volunteer with Petaluma Valley Hospital Auxiliary, Hillcrest Hospital Auxiliary, the Petaluma Library book sales and Hospice of Petaluma's Sack's Thrift store.

A San Francisco native and 51-year resident of Sonoma County, Mrs. Baker died in San Rafael on Jan. 23, 2011 at the age of 79.

"She got along well with people," said husband Robert Baker. "She was a homebody, good with the children and just an all-around good person."

Mrs. Baker was working as a secretary at the Pittsburg Chamber of Commerce when she met her husband, Robert, on a blind date in Santa Rosa.

After they married, Mrs. Baker worked at a dentist's office in Petaluma, and later at Carithers and JC Penney department stores.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Robert E. Baker of Penngrove; children, Joanne Doucet of Lucas, Texas and Christopher Baker of Petaluma. She was predeceased by her sister, Angie Gilmore.

Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral liturgy at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 27 at Parent-Sorensen Mortuary & Crematory, 850 Keokuk St.

The family prefer memorials be made to Hospice of Petaluma or to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
