14 arrested during Petaluma DUI/license checkpoints

Petaluma police arrested four motorists Friday night on suspicion of driving under the influence during two DUI and driver's license checkpoints.

A number of others were arrested on other charges such as driving on a suspended license or driving without a license.

A total of 934 motorists passed through the checkpoints, conducted at northbound Sonoma Mountain Parkway between Castle Drive from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on eastbound East Washington Street at Lakeville Street from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.

In the earlier checkpoint, police identified a passenger in one of the vehicles Christopher Gale, 27, of Petaluma, who was wanted on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon from an incident that occurred June 28 in Petaluma. Gale was arrested without incident, police said.

During the two checkpoints, four drivers were arrested and cited for driving on a suspended license and five drivers were arrested and cited for driving without a license.

Three cars were impounded for 30 days.
