Sailing away

California Maritime Academy student Megan Berry is sailing off for an adventure this month. A Petaluma resident, Berry leaves on her freshman cruise aboard the training ship California Golden Bear at the end of this month. Her first stop will be Busan, South Korea, then Ha Long, Vietnam. The next port of call is Saipan, in the Northern Mariana Islands before heading to Honolulu, Hawaii for the change out port. The last leg of the cruise begins in June with a return trip to the previous ports before heading home to Vallejo, where the California Maritime Academy campus is located. Berry is a 2013 graduate of Casa Grande High School and a freshman at the CMA. A former employee of Kmart in the Plaza North Shopping Center, she was the winner of the Kmart Ultimate Cashier Regional Competition last year. She is the daughter of Doug Shoaf and Kate Berry Shoaf of Petaluma.
